Designed with a precision wedge mechanism, the zinc-plated wedge anchor is a mechanical expansion fastener used to secure hardware to solid concrete. As the nut is tightened, the expansion clip engages to create a strong, permanent hold. Ideal for anchoring structural supports, machinery, or fixtures, these wedge anchors offer easy installation and dependable performance.

  • Drive Type: Hex head (tightened with a wrench)

  • Installation: Drill a hole matching the anchor diameter, insert into concrete, and tighten the nut to expand and lock the anchor

  • Material/Finish: Zinc-plated steel for indoor use or light exterior conditions with minimal moisture exposure

            Q. What are wedge anchors used for?

Wedge anchors are heavy-duty fasteners used to anchor hurricane shutter hardware, brackets, and tracks into solid concrete. As the nut is tightened, a wedge mechanism expands the base of the anchor to lock it in place for high holding strength. Wedge anchors are only recommended for solid concrete. For hollow block or brick, use sleeve anchors instead.

            Q. How do I install a wedge anchor?

Drill a hole into concrete with a hammer drill and carbide bit (same diameter as the anchor). Clean the hole, insert the anchor fully, and torque the nut until the wedge mechanism locks in place. Proper embedment is critical for holding strength.

            Q. What size wedge anchor do I need?

¼″ and ⅜″ diameters are common for hurricane shutter installations. The required length depends on the thickness of the hardware plus the embedment depth, usually a minimum of 1½″ into concrete. For critical installations, refer to engineering specifications.

            Q. What makes Ultra+ wedge anchors different?

Ultra+ wedge anchors are premium-grade anchors designed for high-performance applications. They are ICC-ES approved for use in cracked and uncracked concrete and often carry Miami-Dade County approval, making them ideal for structural and hurricane-zone installations.

            Q. Are wedge anchors reusable?

No. Wedge anchors are permanent. Once wedge anchors are expanded in concrete, they cannot be removed or reused without damage.
